About Katie

Dr. Katherine A. Osenga O.P. is a distinguished icon painter whose work bridges the sacred traditions of Christian art with a contemporary, deeply personal vision. Trained in both studio practice and theology, she holds a PhD in Art History and Religious Studies from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. Her icons and paintings draw heavily from her academic study of early Christian and Renaissance art, often focusing on themes of spirituality and the enduring presence of the divine in everyday life. With exhibitions across the U.S. and internationally—including in Rome, Florence, and San Francisco—Dr. Osenga’s art invites contemplation and connection, rooted in centuries-old techniques and enriched by a modern sensibility.

A professed member of the Third Order Dominicans, Dr. Osenga approaches her artistic vocation as a form of spiritual practice. Her work is often infused with Dominican values of truth, beauty, and the contemplative life, serving as both visual theology and an invitation to prayer. Her Marian imagery and exploration of iconography have been central to her exhibitions, lectures, and curated shows. Whether painting, teaching, or speaking, Dr. Osenga brings together the intellectual and the mystical, creating art that is not only seen but experienced on a soul-deep level.
